Nobel Moisture Protection System
Moisture is the enemy of the bassoon. Beginners (and even intermediate players) are notorious for aiding and abetting — i.e., they just don’t swab!
The Moisture Protection System aims to change that. By engineering around the problem spots, we’ve developed an instrument that is much more resilient than traditional student bassoons.
Tone Holes
The Nobel NBW1 uses hard rubber finger hole tubes to help better protect the bassoon from moisture. Metal tubes don’t move with the seasons, but hard rubber helps make the bassoon more durable and longer-lasting.
Boot Protection
- The sockets on the bassoon (wing, long and boot) are brass-tenon capped. This forms the start of the protection system.
- The wing and boot joints are fully lined with a special poured-in liner to ensure a glossy bore surface that protects the wood from moisture.
- A rubber gasket (not cork) on the U-tube assembly at the boot of the bassoon.
